19 Jul Summer closure: newsletter made by Artificial Intelligence

We want to share with you the behind-the-scenes of creating our summer newsletter and how we used Artificial Intelligence to bring it to life.
If you’ve been following us for some time, you’ll know that we send out few newsletters, but when we do, we want them to be well-thought-out and not ordinary.
This year, when it came time to announce our summer closure, we started developing some concepts.
In the midst of it all, we became curious and decided to ask ChatGPT for some ideas.
For months, there has been talk – at least in our industry – of one single topic: AI and how it will change the world. So, we tested one to perform a creative task.
"Hey ChatGPT, we want to create the summer newsletter [...], give us some suggestions."
The AI came up with something nice, but it didn’t quite meet our standards.
Jokingly, we said to each other, “It’s a bit approximate; maybe even she is on vacation.”
BOOM!
This thought led us to imagine a much more human-like AI that behaves just like us and takes a vacation during the two weeks in August.
Okay, we liked this concept for the newsletter! However, it needed an impactful representation.
We played around with Adobe Firefly and Photoshop Beta.
We wrote an input prompt that Firefly used to create various versions of the image we had in mind: a computer on an inflatable floating in the middle of the sea, dressed for vacation.
All we had to do was add an Out of Office message on the laptop’s monitor, and les jeux sont faits!
This experience showed us that as wonderful as AI can be, human creativity remains (at least for now) superior.
And above all, for AI to work properly… you need to know what you want!
PS. This article was also written with Google Bard… But then we didn’t like it and fixed it up.
